Dada

I have at least a couple more NY posts to write, but there's something else I feel inspired to post about right now...

To say that Troy has been working his butt off for our family is a major understatement. For the last several weeks, he has been putting in incredibly long hours and often working on the weekends. He missed our entire trip to NY, even after we had booked his ticket thinking he would be able to make it at least for a few days, because he just hasn't been able to get away from his work. This meant missing his first Father's Day with Ewan. He is running one of the biggest jobs his company has ever had, and he has been working this hard without a word of complaint. Today, a Sunday and a holiday, was the first day Troy has been able to take off in weeks, and it was barely possible. But it was so worth it, for all of us.

The day's activities included a leisurely morning during which we all took turns sleeping. Once we were all up for good, we got Ewan dressed in a shirt that used to belong to his Daddy:(Another good good hair day for Troy.)

Then, the boys spent some quality time spinning "cuck" wheels in the garage, during which Ewan stood on his own for the very first time (for more than a couple seconds). He didn't seem to realize he was doing it, which I think is how these things go.
Later, we went to Ewan's friend, Rivers', first birthday party, which included some fun beach time...
But, the most precious thing about this day was that, although he's been babbling "Dada" for months, this was the day when I think it officially became a part of Ewan's vocabulary, in that he really seemed to start saying it with meaning. He was a little sleepy and a bit distracted in this video, but you get the idea...

As Troy left Ewan's room at bedtime tonight, Ewan waved the most enthusiastic "bye bye" to him while saying, "Dada!" It was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen him do.

We sure do love you, Dada. We love you great big! And we appreciate all you do for us. I hope we can think of this as a belated first Father's Day. Who needs Hallmark to tell us when to celebrate these days anyway? In my opinion, they're much better when they just kind of happen.
