Ewan spent his 11 month birthday at the beautiful Mohonk Mountain House. We were actually celebrating my mom's 60th birthday, which was on June 7th, and Father's Day, but June 18th was the day that worked best for all of us. My parents and brothers were all there, but unfortunately my sister was already back at her apartment in Amherst. We only had one weekend together as a whole family (minus Troy), which was up at Dartmouth for Reid's graduation. More on that to come. For now, here's Ewan's 11th month in a nutshell...
This has been a month of noticeable cognitive and language development. Ewan is becoming so much more of a kid who understands so much and interacts with his world and the people in his life in so many new ways. While in NY, Ewan acquired three new teeth and several ounces, if not pounds, of adorable chub from the many new treats he tried. He learned to crawl down stairs and improved upon his cruising and standing skills. In the language department, new words include "hot," and duck and truck, which both sound like "cuck." This can easily be misheard, so whenever we're out in public and Ewan starts loudly repeating, "cuck," I make a point of equally loudly saying, "Oh, you see a TRUCK!" This happens frequently because, to Ewan, anything with wheels is a truck and any bath toy or little animal is a duck.
Other cute new tricks include growling when you ask him what the lion says, although he also sometimes growls when you ask him what the fan does. He smacks his lips and says "umm num" when he's eating something yummy, and sometimes just for the hell of it. Just in time for seeing my dad, he also learned to do one of his favorites from my and my siblings' childhoods, something we fondly refer to as "wabba wabba," which looks a little something like this...
He also does his version of pointing, which looks like he's a king addressing his royal court or like he's about to deliver a soliloquy, as my sister says. He points at everything, but especially lights ("at," "ot," or "ight") and fans, which are among the most fascinating things in the world to him, although wheels and things that spin may now top his list of Things That Are Incredibly Awesome. The pointing looks a little something like this...
Well, there is much more to share about Ewan's 11th month, but that will come in the way of more posts on our trip to NY; however, you can get a sneak peek with some pictures here. Happy last month as a baby, Ewan! You're almost a toddler, dude! And you officially eat more than your father.
